SOMO PRODUCTIONS

Steve Rust and Maureen Maliha began their collaborative effort soon after their individual talents met. Steve's mastery of music, and Maureen's poetry of image, soon became SoMo Productions. From their partnership came individual entities named Sight of Sound, I Remember,  Moving Family Albums,  and Music To Art.

Now available!
Sight of Sound DVD, which contains nine themed stories told via musical and visual imagery.

Their live performance of Sight of Sound  is a multi-media effort featuring invited guests who perform music, dance, and spoken word.   After one performance an attendee remarked:    "...they are a force to be reckoned with ... they are poised on the edge of something truly remarkable ... don't look away for too long. If you do,  you're going to miss something unique and important from these two!"  Visit somo-productions.com.

BLOB

Innova Recordings artists, BLOB, are an avantdelic, experimental, jamband that focuses on recording imaginative, improvised, instrumental soundscapes. Combining virtuosity and an ear for a unique sonic texture, BLOB will transport your audiences to previously uncharted audio dimensions.

BLOB has been primarily a recording project In it's first incarnation (2006), BLOB was manned by Bill Bacon (drums), John Lindberg (processed upright bass), and Ted Orr (midi guitar). One album, The Awakening, was recorded and featured special guests, Karl Berger (keys) and Don Davis (winds). Drummer Harvey Sorgen joined in 2007, after Bacon's departure, and has been on every recording since.

John Linberg has just taken a position at Cal Arts and is featued on all 10 albums through 2012's "Summer Shorts". Steve Rust now makes the low notes on processed upright & electri/midi basses.

BIG TENT

They are not a political party, but given all the different musical points of view brought to bear by these three veteran improvisers, a delicious Big Tent in sound is created when drummer/ percussionist Harvey Sorgen, bassist Steve Rust and pianist/ vocalist Jerome Kitzke come together. The resulting music is possessed of raw energy or delicate filigree and everything in between, all delivered with a passionate verve rooted in broad deep emotions that are served beautifully by the prodigious technique each player possesses.

Electric twists and turns abound in these pieces that sound at once spontaneous and composed. The use of poetry brings a tight formal cohesion to some of the cuts, so when you hear Kitzke reading a Drum Taps poem by Whitman with jangling piano over a tenderly nuanced arco bass line by Rust, joined at just the right moment by Sorgen’s insistent snare and kick drum cadence, you know you are not hearing your average improv band. When they are ferocious, the roar is also quirky and when they are tender, the tear that forms will most likely come with a smile. Big Tent: endorsing bipartisan listening since 2003.
